The fierce gun battle took place in a forested area under the Sadar Kotwali police station in the wee hours when, on a tip-off, the forces launched simultaneous raids in Badarboni, Cheraboni and Seorboni where the ultras were understood to have been hiding, the district police super Manoj Verma said.
The gun battle lasted for nearly two hours, leaving a CRPF jawan and a Maoist dead. The identity of the dead ultra is yet to be established. The extremists detonated several landmines before fleeing the area, he said.
In a massive combing operation launched thereafter, the forces apprehended two rebel leaders and seized huge quantity of explosives from their hideout. The seizure, included 850 gelatin sticks and over 1000 detonators, bags of gunpowder and four rifles, probably snatched from the policemen, Verma said.
