A CRPF officer was killed when militants attacked a paramilitary party in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district Sunday.

Reports said militants fired upon a joint naka party of police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Gangoo area of Pulwama at around 2:20 pm. In the firing, CRPF’s assistant sub inspector Vinod Kumar got seriously injured, police said. He was rushed to the hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries.

“#Terrorists fired upon Naka party at Gangoo Crossing #Pulwama from nearby Apple orchard. In this #terror incident 01 CRPF personnel ASI Vinod Kumar got seriously injured. He was shifted to hospital for treatment where he attained #martyrdom. Area cordoned off. Search in progress (sic),” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.

The latest attack came just five days after an ASI of J&K Police was killed when militants attacked a check post in the Lal Bazar area on the outskirts of Srinagar city on July 12. Two more policemen were injured in the attack.

In May, tee off-duty policemen were killed in Srinagar and south Kashmir’s Pulwama district. At least nine policemen, mostly off-duty, have been killed by the militants in different attacks this year.
