Protest rallies were held even as the curfew continued in Imphal, condemning the death of a 16 year old student during a rally in demand for the Inner Line Permit (ILP).

The police had opened fire and the student died of rubber bullet and tear gas shell injuries. According to police sources, hundreds of  supporters of the Inner Line permit demand  on Thursday defied government prohibition order and came out at the street shouting slogan for punishment of the police personal involved in the killing of the student and demanding introduction of Inner Line Permit System in the state immediately.

In another incident, large number students also staged protest rally and tried to storm to the residence of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh at Thoubal Athokpam around 3 pm on Thursday.  The cops had a very hard time in controlling the agitators.

Inside, the state legislative assembly opposition legislators moved a calling attention motion over the public demand for the withdrawal of the Manipur Regulation of Visitors, Tenants and Migrant Workers Bill-2015 and the death of the students in police action in the state capital. Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh who is also the leader of the house said that the Manipur Regulation of Visitors, Tenants and Migrant Workers Bill-2015 passed by the house and have been returned as the Manipur governor did not give his assent.

The indefinite curfew has thrown life out of gears in Imphal valley. All shops and business establishment are shutdown. Several protests have been organised, in some places protesters burnt tyres and pelted stones at police vehicles.

A top Manipur police official informed Deccan Herald that the indefinite curfew might continue till July 10 evening unless any further flare up takes place. On July 10 the on going assembly session will end.
