Commissioner of Customs (Preventive) in Kerala Sumit Kumar, who is probing the ongoing gold smuggling case in the state, on Friday, alleged threat to his life

The local police have registered a case and launched a probe. They suspect the involvement of those linked with the smuggling of gold through diplomatic baggage cover.

Sumit, who initially revealed the incident through social media, later told a section of media that some persons in a car and couple of two-wheelers chased his official car when he was proceeding to Kozhikode from Kalpetta in Wayanad. They chased his car for about 20 kilometres at Koduvally - Kondotty areas in Malappuram - Kozhikode border in a rash manner. Later, the vehicles disappeared.

Incidentally, many persons from this locality were accused in the gold smuggling case. Koduvally is even considered as a hub of gold business in Kerala and there were also allegations that a good chunk of smuggled gold used to be sold in Koduvally.
