Terming cyber terrorism as one of the biggest threats to the country, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said a specialised wing will be set up in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to conduct regular cyber security audits and build capacities to deal with cyber terrorism.

After reviewing the passing out parade of CISF probationers at the CISF Regional Training Centre at Arakkonam, about 75 km from Chennai, the minister said there was a sharp increase in cyber terrorism in the recent days.

“Cyber terrorism is another major terror threat facing several countries in the world. It is a big danger along with cyber crime. It can be multi-location, multi-lingual and multi-layered,” Rajnath said adding, “Cyber terrorists use digital tracks to attack important institutions, buildings and installations.”

“The CISF needs to maintain its core competence against terrorism so that our strategic installations are not hit by any terrorist group,” he said.

He also said the CISF needs to upgrade and technologically advance itself to face and counter any incident of cyber terrorism.

Rajnath said the CISF headquarters should strengthen its security mechanism based on the audit reports by adopting new technological solutions.

Pointing out that the role of the CISF has been further diversified and expanded with rapid increase in globalisation and liberalisation, the minister said the force’s role was extremely challenging, but despite this, CISF personnel perform their duties with a smile.

“Training is the most important pillar of any force. I’m hopeful the training given to probationers will help them in performing their duties,” he added.
