The official death toll in cyclone Fani that ravaged the coastal belt of Odisha in the first week of the current month has gone up to 64. The figure was 43 earlier.

According to the latest status report released to the media by the office of Bishnupada Sethi, state’s special relief commissioner(SRC), the number of affected people due to the calamity has also gone up from 1.5 crore to 1.65 crore. However, the number of affected districts has remain 14.

Coastal Puri district which includes the temple town of Puri where the cyclone had entered the land heads the toll list with 39 deaths followed by Khurda(9), Cuttack(6), Mayurbhanj(4) and Kendrapara as well as Jajpur districts with three each.
