The Odisha government on Wednesday submitted a report to a central team claiming that the state has incurred a loss of around Rs 12,000 crore in different sectors due to the cyclone Fani that hit the coastal belt of the state on May 3.

The Odisha government on Wednesday submitted a report to a central team claiming that the state has incurred a loss of around Rs 12,000 crore in different sectors due to the cyclone Fani that hit the coastal belt of the state on May 3.

The administration, however, clarified that this was just a preliminary assessment based on the initial reports submitted by the district collectors and the final figure may go up. “We will be submitting a final memorandum to the Centre by end of this month”, state’s special relief commissioner Bishnupada Sethi said adding that a village to village and house to house survey had already begun by officials in all the affected districts from Wednesday to assess the actual damage.

The central team which was deputed by the Union government to make an on the spot assessment of the damage due to the cyclone concluded its three day tour on Wednesday.
