New Delhi: The Indian Women Press Corps premises and the office of the Delhi Union of Journalists received a bomb threat email from an unknown sender on Saturday prompting a bomb disposal squad to take a sweep of the offices. No bomb was found on either location.
The IWPC, in a statement, said that they received an e-mail at their official mail ID at 4.57am on Saturday morning, stating that RDX-IED has been planted at the premises of IWPC and DUJ. The DUJ, too, had received the same mail.
“Acting on this, we immediately informed the Delhi Police. The Delhi Bomb Squad and Delhi Dog Squad Unit promptly visited our premises and conducted a thorough search of IWPC. The Fire Brigade also came. Following this, they stated that our premises was clear of any threat and was safe,” the IWPC said in a statement.
A similar sweep was carried out at the office of the DUJ, which is located in a building at the busy Shankar Market at Connaught Place. The bomb squad carried out searches in the entire market, as per onlookers.
The email, as per someone in the know, carried some phases in Tamil and mentioned a case of sexual assault in a minor in Tamil Nadu. Most of the language did not make much sense. However, the subject line mentioned RDX and IED at the premises of these clubs.
The emails, coming in the heels of the deadly blasts at the Red Fort which has left over a dozen people dead, created some panic among members of these journalist clubs.
