Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated a complex of multi-storey flats for parliamentarians.
The new complex in Baba Kharak Singh Marg, close to Parliament House, comprises 184 type-VII multi-storey flats. The towers are named Kosi, Krishna, Godavari and Hooghly.
Old houses for MPs were in a poor state and posed several problems, the prime minister said, adding that lawmakers will face no such issue in these modern flats, each with a carpet area of over 5,000 sq ft.
Here is what each flat will have:
Each residential tower will have 23 floors, with a stilt floor, which is a raised platform, supported by columns or stilts. The other basement level will have a fire refuge floor.
As reported by The Indian Express, the flats in the complex have a unit spanning of 461.5 square metres.
The flats in this project will have five bedrooms, each with attached toilets and dressing areas. Additionally, balconies are provided in each room.
It will also have a drawing room, puja room, dining room, and a family lounge.
The wardrobes and the kitchen are said to be modular, with attached cooking hobs and chimneys.
Apart from all the rooms mentioned, the flats will also have an office for the MP, and an office for their personal assistant.
The entries to for these offices will be separate.
There are numerous other amenities provided, like double gazed UPVC windows, wooden flooring in the master bedroom and the office, other rooms to get vitrified flooring and VRV air conditioning system.
There will be gadgets provided in the house including cable TV, EPABX telephone, video door phone, Wi-Fi, refrigerator and geyser, the publication mentioned.
The complex will also have lots of facilities for the MPs like housing shops, dispensary, and a community hall. The complex will also have a canteen, club, gym, yoga facilities, and guest rooms.
Rainwater harvesting, water recycling, dual plumbing, rooftop solar panels and garbage chutes will be provided.
With the complex being sanctioned for Rs 646.53 crore, it will have necessary features like CCTV cameras, power backup system, public toilets, ATM, and lawns.
PM Modi said the new flats will also help save money as the government spent a considerable sum in maintaining the older houses.
Noting that MPs from different states and regions will be staying in these premises, he said it will symbolise the idea of 'Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat'. It will be a great move if festivals of different states are celebrated collectively, he said, adding that the MPs can ask their constituents to join them as well.
The prime minister said MPs living on the premises should consider it their duty to ensure that the place is identified with sustainability and cleanliness.
He said he will urge the ministry and the residential committee concerned if there can be a competition two to three times annually among the different premises housing MPs on cleanliness.
