The menace of dengue in the national capital is slowly turning into a political war with different political outfits resorting to using fogging machines in areas dominated by their voters.
Though no party is openly admitting the fact, the act of declaring an open war against mosquitoes by the AAP, BJP and Congress shows how loyal they are towards their supporters.
“Everyone wants to become a fogging worker,” said a BJP councillor in North Corporation, adding he had never seen such eagerness in the politicians to fight the menace.
Fumigating against dengue mosquitoes is the statutory responsibility of the civic agencies which, at present, are controlled by the BJP.
However, both the AAP and the Congress accused the saffron party of having failed to deliver the goods.
Nearly 1,700 fresh dengue cases have been reported in the city in the past week, taking the total number of people affected by the vector-borne disease to 5,471.
Delhi Cong scores a first
Meanwhile, the Delhi Congress scored a march over others by becoming the first to buy and use private fogging machines.
On Sunday, Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken took to the streets in selected colonies in Assembly constituencies which once used to be the grand-old party’s strongholds.
