A recently formed  anti-beef committee has strongly condemned the government decision to serve beef and threatened disruption of the games  “if the government does not rescind its decision.”

Convenor of the committee and general secretary of Gurukul Ujjain Swami Satyabandhu said: “An all religions committee  representing  leaders of Hindus, Aryasamajis, Sikhs, Jains, Muslims and Christians has been formed to pressurise the government”.

The committee would be headed by Madhavashramji, Shankaracharya of Jyotirmath.
They reminded authorities of  an enactment in the  statute book of the Delhi assembly in 1994 which “prohibits killing of  cows, processing, selling and importing beef in the Union Territory of Delhi.”

Penalty
It prescribes that anyone violating the law “may be fined and jailed for an year,” the committee said.

Various groups are planning to move the court on the issue. A delegation on Saturday met Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit and sought cancellation of the decision to serve beef at the games venue.

The anti-beef agitation has the potential to disrupt the games which is already facing many troubles as infrastructure development is running behind the schedule.
