Notwithstanding repeated warnings from the Election Commission, leaders of different political parties continue to spew venom against one another during campaigning in Uttar Pradesh.
BJP Lok Sabha member and Bhojpuri film actor Manoj Tiwari called Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi ‘bhikhmanga’ (beggar) and corrupt, while a BSP leader termed BJP national president Amit Shah a “rhino”.
State Minister Radhey Shyam Singh even threatened to kill a local journalist for writing against him.
“Rahul Gandhi bhikhmanga hai,” Tiwari said, addressing an election rally here on Sunday. He was referring to how Rahul had shown his torn pockets at a meeting recently. “Rahul has minted so much money from various scams that his pockets were torn,” the BJP MP from Delhi said.
Afzal Ansari, BSP leader and party nominee from Mohemdabad Assembly seat in Mau district, described Shah as a rhino, which, he said, remained “indifferent
even when beaten”.
“The rhino, if beaten, realises after 15 minutes that someone has touched it,” said Afzal, who is the brother of don-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari.
Earlier, too, political leaders were found using objectionable language during campaigning.
