Digvijay rubbishes reports of quitting as UP poll in-charge

Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh today dismissed as "baseless" media reports which claimed he had decided to step down as party in-charge of poll-bound Uttar Pradesh.

"I just do not know from where and how the media manages to get such totally baseless and false stories about me," Singh told PTI.

He said it would be unwise for him to resign as the in-charge of Uttar Pradesh, particularly at a time when the state was in the midst of intense campaigning.

Two TV channels had yesterday carried news items saying Singh has decided to quit as the UP in-charge.

Asked to comment on the prospects of former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti, who recently entered the electoral fray in Uttar Pradesh, the senior Congress leader said, "We do not have to do anything. The UP BJP will itself ensure that Bharti does not win."
