The prohibitory orders are imposed from Thursday morning till late in the night, said Puri district sub-collector Bhabataran Sahu.
Houses in Bhubaneswar and elsewhere in the state were illuminated on the occasion of Deepavali. People lit earthen lamps, candles and electric lights to decorate their homes.
The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration decided to keep the famous temple in Puri closed for visitors while the district administration put restrictions on offering "Paya Shraddha", paying respect to forefathers, near the temple because of the pandemic situation.

Diwaliwas celebrated across Punjab and Haryana on Thursday with great fervour, gaiety and enthusiasm. There was a festive spirit in the two states and their joint capital Chandigarh with people thronging the marketplaces for last-minute shopping. Devotees queued up at temples and gurdwaras across Punjab and Haryana including Chandigarh to pay obeisance. Madhya Pradesh CM Chouhan celebrates Diwali with children orphaned by pandemic
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday celebrated Diwali with children who have lost one or both parents to the Covid-19 pandemic. He had lunch with 66 children from Bhopal, Sehore, Raisen, Vidisha, Rajgarh, and Hoshangabad districts at his official residence, said an official. More than 1,000 other orphaned children also joined in the get-together online from across the state.
