DMK MLAs held a mock assembly on the premises of the Secretariat at Fort St. George on Friday after they were denied entry into the House.

The legislators were suspended from attending the session for a week. Led by M K Stalin, they managed to get stools, tables, mics and speakers to hold a mock assembly in front of the chief minister’s special cell.

Accordingly, deputy leader of the party in the assembly Durai Murugan “acted” as speaker and Stalin posed as the Opposition leader with DMK members raising their hands to give them a chance to speak.

Murugan was seen continuously denying the request of the DMK MLAs, who wanted to speak. The mock session, which lasted for an hour, also witnessed some DMK members acting like AIADMK ministers. Later, Stalin told reporters that it (mock drill) was being done to condemn Speaker P Dhanapal’s decision to suspend the DMK members from attending the proceedings.

For the first time after AIADMK retained power in May 2016, a total of 80 DMK legislators were suspended from attending the session for one week for creating ruckus and stalling the proceedings on Wednesday last. The DMK has 89 members in the 234-member assembly.
