The DMK’s welcoming of the prime minister’s statement, however, came with a rider. “If the KNPP project is implemented after getting the consent of all concerned, then we welcome it,” DMK chief M Karunanidhi told reporters here this evening when asked to comment on Singh’s remarks, amid the anti-KNPP protestors intensifying their stir in Tirunelveli district.

On the vacancies in the Cabinet, Karunanidhi said the DMK did not want to “hurry up” on filling the two vacancies in the Union Cabinet.
The DMK leader also felt that it would have been better if the Tamil Nadu government had convened an all-party meeting on the Mullaperiyar issue as it would have given all the parties an opportunity to express their views on the subject.
