Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu said this to ministers and members of the Rajya Sabha on Friday while asking them not to use 'colonial terms' while laying papers on the table.
He said there was no need for anyone to use the word "I beg to". "Just say I raise to lay on the table," Naidu said.
Naidu, however, hastened to add that his statement was not an order but a suggestion from the Chair.
He also stood up while reading out obituary references though his predecessors Hamid Ansari and Bhairon Singh Shekhawat used to read these while being seated.
Though he had chaired the House on August 11, a day after he took oath as Vice President, Friday was his first full-day session in conducting the business. As usual, he came with one-liners for which he is known for.
As Opposition members rushed into the Well, he quipped, "All is not well when MPs rush into the Well of the House".
When Samajwadi Party MP Naresh Agarwal raised a point of order over his decision to disqualify two JD(U) MPs, he said, "there is no order or point in your point of order".
He also chided Samajwadi Party leader Neeraj Shekhar when he raised his voice saying, "there is no point in raising your voice."
