The niece of former Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa, Deepa Jayakumar, has raised doubts about the treatment given to her aunt and called the doctors’ press meet on Monday ‘stage-managed.’
“Though everyone knew who I am, I was not allowed to see my aunt,” Deepa said. “I was always kept out and no one called me inside. I have already raised doubts about the treatment given to her.”
Deepa also had no clue of the bills for the treatment, which the doctors had claimed to be Rs 5.5 crore. “I was neither informed (about the bills), nor was it given to me,” she said.
Asserting that she was not after Jayalalithaa’s properties, especially the Poes Garden residence, Deepa said: “I will follow the footsteps of my aunt and my primary concern is the people of the state.”
Stating that she would make a major political announcement on February 24, Jayalalithaa’s birthday, Deepa said she would definitely contest the forthcoming polls.
To a question on Sasikala’s elevation as AIADMK general secretary and Tamil Nadu chief minister, Deepa said her aunt’s former aide is not the right person for those positions. “I do not agree (she is the right person). Only an elected leader should become CM,” she said.
“Being with a person for more than 30 years is not a qualification to be chief minister,” Deepa said.
