The new draft National Policy for Women addresses the issues of single women and includes ICT-supported measures to provide safety and security to women.

“The policy will enable the government to recognise single women — divorced, widowed and unmarried — as independent entities. Also, the policy is likely to address concerns such as taboos surrounding single women,” said Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi.

The policy aims at bettering security environments with initiatives, such as one stop centres, women helplines, mahila police volunteers, reservation of women in the police force, creating immediate response mechanism through panic buttons in mobile phones, public and private transport and surveillance mechanisms in public places.
