While security agencies have been focusing of late in Jammu and Kashmir on the growing incidents of militants infiltrating from across the Line of Control (LoC), narco-terrorism is posing a new challenge to the security forces in the state.
The militants have found cross LoC trade, started in 2008, between divided parts of Kashmir, as a new medium to pump drugs and money into the state.
Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday seized nine packets of cocaine, each weighing one kilo and valued at Rs 10 crore in international drug markets, from a truck that was carrying goods for trans LoC trade and had returned from Pakistan occupied Kashmir after unloading bananas in Chakoti across the LoC.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, North Kashmir range, J P Singh said that LoC trade is being used to smuggle narcotics into the valley and channel the proceeds into funding militancy.
