The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached property worth Rs 46.96 lakh of former Haryana chief minister O P Chautala after registering a fresh case against him under the harsher Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

In a swift development, the ED registered the case on Tuesday and decided to attach a property acquired in his name in Gurgaon on June 19, 2008.

The FIR was lodged on the basis of the CBI charge sheet filed against the five-time chief minister and his two sons in December, 2009, for allegedly acquiring disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 6.09 crore during a particular period of time.

Interestingly, the decision comes in the wake of a move by the BJP to forge an alliance with the Chautala-led INLD ahead of the Haryana Assembly polls.
