At least eight Maoist guerrillas were arrested Thursday in Jharkhand's Palamau district, police said.

According to police, eight Maoists of People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) were arrested early Thursday while they were holding a meeting in Palamau district's jungle, 160 km from Ranchi.

The arrested Maoists include PLFI zonal commander Lakshman Yadav who is accused of abducting three bank officials in the state a few months ago.

Police said five rifles were recovered from their possession, looted from the state police.
Maoist guerrillas are active in 18 of the 24 districts of the state, police said.
