Falak, is showing some improvements in her health. ''This morning at 6 am she was taken off the ventilator and is doing fine. She is breathing on her own now,'' said Dr Deepak Aggarwal, associate professor, neurology, Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Center, AIIMS.

Dr Aggarwal, who has been monitoring the child from the beginning, said though her condition remains critical, she is marginally better.

Doctors have removed the pus that had accumulated in Falak’s brain cavity. However, the infections in her blood, brain fluid and chest continue to bother the doctors.

“Tests show that the infections persist. I would put her chances of survival at 50 per cent,” he said.
Falak is now opening her eyes and blinking, but she is still unconscious. She is responding positively to the antibiotics administered to her.

Doctors are giving her strong antibiotics to stop the septicaemia, an infection in the blood, from spreading to the vital organs of the body.

The latest tests suggest that the condition of her kidneys, liver and heart was normal. Falak was brought to the AIIMS trauma centre on January 18 by a teenaged girl.

She had severe injuries all over her body including human bite marks. She is being fed by a tube through her nose.

A day earlier, doctors had said  tests showed that the septicaemia had not affected Falak's organs.

“We conducted tests for all her organs, namely liver, kidney and heart. No infection was detected in any of these organs and the test results fall within the normal range,” said Dr Aggarwal had said.
The doctors also conducted urine and trachea tests and the reports will come in two days.
