Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said the nation cannot prosper unless the farmers of the country earn well.

His statement came in the wake of the ongoing farmers’ protest in Madhya Pradesh, in which five farmers were killed and several others injured in police firing on Tuesday.

Speaking at the inauguration of ‘MODI-fest’ at Muhana Mandi here to mark the third anniversary of the Narendra Modi government, Singh said the Centre was working towards doubling the income of farmers by 2022.

“We can never achieve the dream of making India a rich country unless our farmers prosper,” Singh said at the function, attended by scores of farmers.

Praising the NDA government, he said the country’s borders were now more secure and would be fortified further to stop illegal infiltration. He recalled the surgical strikes, anti-corruption drive, demonetisation, LPG connection in villages and creation of skilled jobs to highlight some of the success stories of the Modi-led government.

Singh arrived in Jaipur on Friday morning for a one-day visit to inaugurate the fest.
Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, BJP state president Ashok Parnami and state Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria received Singh at the Sanganer airport.
