The prosecution, led by special Ujjwal Nikam, is likely to rely on innumerable testimonies of eyewitnesses and documentary evidence such as CCTV footages and press photographs proving Kasab’s participation in the mayhem beyond a shade of doubt.
The prosecution will also focus on countering the stand taken by Kasab that he is not a terrorist and it was his “look-alike” who was involved in 26/11 firing.
Kasab had peddled a web of lies during his statement to the court claiming that he had come from Pakistan by the Samjhauta Express as a tourist to Delhi and from there arrived in Mumbai a few days before the attacks. He had claimed that he was picked up by police and was in a lock-up when 26/11 happened and then he was framed up in the case.
Besides nailing Kasab’s lies, the prosecution will also have to demolish Kasab’s stand that he was not injured in a police encounter and that the injury sustained by him in his hand was inflicted by police to implicate him in the crime.
