First film festival for people with disability from December 1

The Centre will kick off first international film festival for persons with disability here on December 1.

The three-day festival, being organised by the Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry, will witness screening of as many as 40 movies including 10 feature films, 16 short films and 14 documentaries in different languages. All the films, to be screened at the festival are about people with disabilities and their lives.

“These films have been selected out of 541 entries received from India and abroad. The film festival will conclude on December 3, which is commemorated worldwide every year as International day of persons with disabilities. Hence it will also honour the contributions of the persons with disabilities,” Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities secretary Lov Verma told reporters on Monday.

The festival has been conceptualised by the Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry in collaboration with the National Film Development Corporation.

During the film festival, Best Director and Best Film in each of the three categories—feature, documentary and short film—will be felicitated with awards. The first and second runner-up will receive trophies and citations from the Department.
