“Nithari” was repeated in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur district, about 275 km from here, when four labourers—all from Jharkhand—are reported to have killed one of their colleagues and later eaten a portion of the dead man's liver.
The matter came to light when one of the accused, identified only as Pawan, was arrested by the police on Thursday. The others, including a woman, are absconding, said police sources.
According to the police, the gruesome incident occurred on the night of Wednesday during a dispute over gambling at a brick kiln at the Boga village of the district. The accused as well as the victim were all labourers at the brick kiln.
Officials said four labourers—Pappu, Pawan, Janak Lohar and Sonu—were gambling at the brick kiln, during which Pappu had lost about Rs 800. He refused to go on gambling, but the others pressured him to continue. Angry over his repeated refusal, Jagan reportedly strangled Pappu, aided by his wife Radha.
