Fresh batch of Amarnath pilgrims leaves for shrine

The batch of 2,574 pilgrims, comprising 1,846 men, 433 women, 54 children and 241 sadhus left in a fleet of 65 vehicles from the base camp of Bhagwati Nagar here early this morning, officials said here.

Despite cloudy weather, the pilgrims had already crossed Batote on Jammu-Srinagar highway and were expected to reach base camps of Baltal and Pahalgam by evening, they said.

The yatra was suspended from Jammu, Baltal and Pahalgam camps yesterday due to inclement weather from the base camps of Pahalgam and Baltal to the holy cave shrine.

With today's batch, as many as 61,826 pilgrims from different parts of the country have left from here to the cave shrine situated at an altitude of 3,880 metres since the commencement of yatra on June 30.
