The Rajasthan government has re-initiated the probe into the illegal visit of former Pakistan MP Abdul Sattar to the border villages of Jaisalmer district two years ago.
“In 2012, Pakistan MP Abdul Sattar had visited Mohangarh and Nachana villages of Jaisalmer district. Being a foreign national, Sattar was not allowed to make free movement into prohibited areas of India. He must have taken prior permission from the state government and government of India,” said a senior police official.
The probe is being conducted by the vigilance wing of the state police and will be monitored by the police headquarters in Jaipur, he added.
Sources said the state government had expressed serious concern about the incident following which the fresh probe was ordered. A team of senior officials of the vigilance wing is reportedly camping in Jaisalmer to look into the matter. The vigilance wing is likely to submit a detailed report to the state government by the end of this month.
Earlier, several local organisations had opposed Sattar’s visit and given a memorandum to the district administration of Jaisalmer citing their objections to it.
Meanwhile, the Jaisalmer district administration has banned public movement near the Indo-Pak border here from 6 pm to 7 am till January 1, 2015. The step has been taken with a view to check infiltration especially during the winter season.
