“There are also questions on whether the money spent had actually reached the intended beneficiaries”, the Minister told a meeting of the consultative committee of his ministry here on Monday.
On the security front Chidambaram said “the centre has to provide para-military forces to the state, but it is the officers of the state police who have to lead the operations”.
In the backdrop of the serious set back on April 6 at Dantewada in Chattisgarh where 76 CRPF jawans were massacred by the Naxals, Chidambaram said “success of the operations was largely depended on the soundness of the plans prepared by a state government and its efficient implementation.”
Meanwhile, M Venkaiah Naidu Chairman of Standing Committee on Home Affairs asked government to not to be seen as “a divided house” in combating Naxals. He said away from Chidambaram, Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh and Congress RS MP Mani Shankar Aiyar are singing a different tune on the government’s Maoist strategy.
Naidu said the ruling party should sort out it’s differences in tackling the important internal security issue.
