Expressing concern over delay in the construction of national highways, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday urged the National Highways Authority of India and state governments to take immediate steps to overcome prolonged delays.

The minister, who undertook a state-wise review of national highway projects, analysed their targets and achievements and underscored the need for effective black-spot (high-incident stretches) management to ensure road safety, said an official release.

Meanwhile, sources said the Centre would soon ask the Uttar Pradesh government to resolve issues pertaining to highway development and ink pacts under the Umbrella State Support Agreement, under which the state is supposed to help acquire land to facilitate central road projects.
