According to police sources here on Thursday, the girl identified as Akanksha, a Class III at a primary school in Auraiya, about 250 kms from here, had been thrashed by the headmaster Amar Singh on Monday in the school.
Sources quoting eyewitness accounts said that the headmaster asked Akanksha to bow her head and then repeatedly slapped on her neck. She allegedly suffered serious spinal injuries, sources added.
She was taken to the hospital after she complained of uneasiness where she died on Wednesday.
Police said that a case had been registered against the headmaster and he has been arrested.
