A spokesman for the Caculo Mall said that the death was not accidental.

The deceased Sharvari Kamat's parents were shopping Sunday afternoon, when the girl was found unconscious near the children's play zone at the mall, which was inaugurated earlier this month and billed as Goa's first shopping mall.

Interestingly, a senior police officer said that no complaint was filed by the parents of the deceased.

“We are aware of the incident. But the girl's parents insisted they did not want to pursue the matter,” a police officer said here.

Sameera Kazi, chairperson of the state commission for children, said that information obtained officially by her Tuesday showed that the girl had “respiratory problems”.

“It was not an accidental death. She was sitting on a chair and was having something when she fell and died,” Kazi said.

When contacted for comment, Pranita Shah, a spokesperson for the Caculo Mall, said that the death was not due to an accident.

"On Sunday at around 8.30 p.m., the staff of the mall noticed a girl child being carried by her guardian from the pathway of Level 3. Our staff promptly assisted the guardian in shifting her to a hospital through the shortest possible route, instantaneously,” Shah said.

“Upon thorough investigation, it is confirmed and clarified that there has been no accident or fall in the mall premises,” the spokesperson added.
