23 dead in midnight blaze at Goa club

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant regarding the nightclub fire in North Goa which claimed the lives of at least 23 people late Saturday night.

PMO in a statement announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) which will be given to the next of kin of the deceased. The injured would be given Rs 50,000.

Modi took to his X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, "The fire mishap in Arpora, Goa is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover at the earliest.

"Spoke to Goa CM Dr. Pramod Sawant Ji about the situation. The State Government is providing all possible assistance to those affected."

Sawant also intimated the public regarding the situation and said "The Government of Goa is extending all assistance to the affected families, during this difficult time."

At least 23 people were killed following a cylinder blast in North Goa late Saturday night.

Most of the dead were the club's kitchen workers, and included three women.
