The Goa Transport Department has now decided to seek the help of church organisations to spread message about road safety.
State Director of Transport Arun Desai told reporters last evening that the awareness would be created through churches during the road safety week that begins from August 1 onwards.
The department has already sought permission of Archbishop of Goa and Diu seeking his node to distribute pamphlets educating about the safe driving during the morning mass on August 4.
Desai said that the department is yet to receive any response from the Archbishop's office but is hopeful that the Church will give its consent to hold such an exercise.
He said that around 60-65 per cent of the fatal road accidents involve two wheelers.
The department is happy that there is decrease in the number of deaths, even as the aim is to have zero fatalities.
The department record indicates that for calendar year 2012, total 289 accidental deaths were registered.
In 2010, total 327 deaths were reported which came down to 305 in 2011.
