Govt appoints new economic affairs secretary in reshuffle

The Central government on Friday night effected a reshuffle in the top bureaucracy, assigning new jobs to 16 senior IAS officers, including Shaktikanta Das, who will be new economic affairs secretary.

The 1980-batch Tamil Nadu-cadre officer, currently the senior-most secretary in the Finance Ministry, will succeed Rajiv Mehrishi, who is retiring on Monday.

Sunil Arora, the 1980-batch Rajasthan-cadre officer who is currently the skill development secretary, will replace retiring official Bimal Jhulan as secretary of Information and Broadcasting Ministry. Outgoing Air India chief Rohit Nandan will be the new skill development secretary.  

Hasmukh Adhia, a 1981-batch Gujarat-cadre officer, will be the new revenue secretary. Anjuly Chib Duggal, the Punjab-cadre officer who is currently corporate affairs secretary, will replace Adhia as the financial services secretary.

Additional Secretary Tapan Ray has been promoted as secretary in the Corporate Affairs Ministry. J S Deepak, a 1982-batch UP-cadre officer, will be the new secretary of the Department of Electronics and Information Technology.

UIDAI Director General V S Madan has been appointed the new secretary of the Land Resources Department in the Rural Development Ministry.

Vinod Zutshi, a Rajasthan-cadre officer who is currently deputy election commissioner, will replace retiring Lalit K Panwar as the tourism secretary.

Current Sports Secretary Ajit M Sharan will be new AYUSH secretary.  Rajiv Yadav has replaced as secretary in the Home Ministry's Official Language Department S K Srivastava, who has been appointed in the Cabinet Secretariat as secretary in charge of coordination and public grievances.
