Expensive equipment used during the New Delhi Commonwealth Games, including Rs 57-crore aerostat, will be handed over to different ministries and government agencies, free of cost. 

The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved handing over of the aerostat, a large helium balloon used in the opening ceremony of the 2010 Games, to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) while all the kitchen equipment will go to the Railways Ministry.

The Cabinet approved “handing over of the aerostat and its accessories to the DRDO, free of cost....”

Depreciation value

The Cabinet also gave its nod to the handing over of the “other Assets of the Organising Committee to various Government departments/Government Agencies, Schools run by Central and State Governments, free of cost, with the approval of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.”

The depreciated value of all the equipment to be transferred will be adjusted by the Organising Committee in its books of accounts towards repayment of government loan outstanding against it.

Other assets such as laptops, computers, printers, furniture will be handed over to Indian Olympic Association (IOA), NDMC and other local bodies at depreciated value and the amount recovered would be adjusted against the dues of OC to these organisations and “cash deposited by OC in Government Account.
