The Central Government proposes to invite Indian-origin youth living abroad to join the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) and the National Service Scheme (NSS) in order to encourage them to strengthen ties with their roots.
“My ministry will consciously work to create an institutional framework under which overseas Indians will get an opportunity to come and work with the NYKS and NSS or other social organisations, thereby strengthening their ties with India,” said Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Jitendra Singh.
Singh was speaking at the inauguration of “Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas” here on Tuesday. The NSS and NYKS are two national youth volunteer networks which the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports created with the objective of promoting social values and spirit of community service.
The NSS has about 3.25 million student volunteers in senior secondary schools and colleges all over the country. The NYKS has about eight million non-student youth volunteers enrolled through about 2.80 lakh youth clubs across rural India.
