A new Guinness world record was created at the ongoing International Science Festival on Saturday when as many as 550 students conducted DNA isolation experiment simultaneously.

The students of a private school conducted the DNA isolation of banana for an hour and one minute in the presence of the Guinness officials breaking the earlier record set by US based Seattle Children's Research Institute.

As many as 302 students of the US institute had conducted the DNA isolation of papaya for 90 minutes in February 2017.

The Guinness World Record adjudicator said that the students were judged on three parameters for the purpose of the record.

''The students followed the rules and hence a new Guinness record was set,'' Rishi Nath, the adjudicator said.

The participants, as well as the teachers of the school, burst with joy, when they were declared the winner and handed over the certificate.

''A lot of planning went into preparing the students for conducting the DNA isolation experiment....the students performed mock experiments and were told about the rules,'' said one of the teachers.

The students said that DNA isolation was not part of their syllabus yet they wanted to perform the experiment in order to create a new record as well as to learn the same.

The scientists present there on this occasion said that such experiments would go a long way in encouraging the students to study science and also enhance the image of the country in the world.
