HC asks UP, poll panel to file reply on 'Love Jihad'

The Allahabad High Court on Thursday gave 10 days to the UP government and the Election Commission (EC) to file a response on a PIL seeking direction to restrain the use of word “Love Jihad” and action against Bharatiya Janata Party MP Yogi Adityanath, PTI reports from Lucknow.

The order was passed by a bench of justices Imtiyaz Murtaza and Ashwani Kumar Singh here on the PIL filed by one Pankaj Tiwari in which the Election Commission of India, UP government, Adityanath and Union Minister Kalraj Mishra have been made respondents. The petitioner through his counsel C B Pandey has alleged that a new kind of communalism was being spread in the name of love jihad. He has sought direction to restrain use of the word Love Jihad and action against Adityanath.
