After a brief spell of rainfall due to southwest monsoon, heat wave conditions prevailed in Tamil Nadu for the last two days with weather office predicting that the climate will be continue to be hot during the whole week.

The temperature in most of the districts including Chennai, Thiruvallur, Vellur, Trichy, Thanjavur and Madurai continue to touch 40 degree Celsius on Tuesday also. Madurai recorded the maximum temperature of 42 degree Celsius.

"The souwest monsoon over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry is normal only. In addition, less cloud conditions over the region too contributed for the heat conditions", a senior Met official said on Tuesday evening.

According to him, during the next 48 hours, the maximum temperature is likely to be 2 to 3 degree celsius above normal in several districts of the State.

The official said the humid conditions will also be high in the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu in the next two days.
