With delay in arrival of monsoon, heatwave conditions returned to Odisha as many parts of the state registered higher day-time temperature for the second consecutive day on Thursday.
On Wednesday, as many as nine towns in the state, seven of them in western Odisha alone, had recorded the highest day-time temperature of more than 40 degrees Celsius. The situation worsened further on Thursday with as many as 16 towns, including capital Bhubaneswar, recording the highest day-time temperature of 40 degrees Celsius and more. For the second consecutive day on Thursday, Titlagarh in western Odisha’s Bolangir district became the hottest town in the state with the mercury touching 44.5 degrees Celsius.
The highest day-time temperature in capital Bhubaneswar was 41.6 degrees Celsius on Thursday. The confirmed toll due to heatwave in the state this summer stood at 26 on Thursday evening.
