Heatwave conditions continue to torment the southern, western and northern parts of the country, with temperatures hovering above 40 degrees Celsius in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Several parts of Telangana, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema regions recorded one to five degrees Celsius above average on Wednesday, with the weather department predicting heatwave conditions for one more day.
Warangal, where the TRS is holding the 16th foundation day celebrations on Thursday, sweltered at 42 degrees.
In Andhra Pradesh, 40 degrees prevailed in Amaravati from early in the morning, while all the important towns in Rayalaseema like Kurnool, Nandyala, Anantapur, Tirupati and Chittoor sweltered under 43 degrees.
Scene in Gujarat
In Gujarat, the temperature touched 40 degrees after staying below the threshold for the best part of the week.
Rajkot and Surendranagar in Saurashtra region recorded 40.3 degrees.
TN gears up for summer
In Tamil Nadu, daytime temperature touched 40 degrees in many places, as the state braces for peak summer in May. Met officials told DH that Trichy and Vellore districts recorded 42 degrees, the season’s highest.
Similarly, the temperature crawled up to 41 degrees in Madurai, Karur, Tirunelveli and Thanjavur.
Showers in Kerala
In Kerala, pre-monsoon showers were limited to isolated pockets on Wednesday, with the weatherman predicting a largely dry condition over the next four days.
Between March 1 and April 26, Kerala received 8% excess rainfall. The dry spell in the past couple of weeks steadily brought down the surplus.
