A sea of emotions was witnessed in village Haryana's Tepla village, in Ambala district, on Thursday as Lance Naik Vikram Jit Singh was consigned to flames with full state honours.
Singh (26) attained martyrdom fighting terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Gurez sector on August 6.
The army and police contingents presented the guard of honour to the martyr by reversing their arms, while several hundreds of villagers gave a tearful farewell to the son of the soil.
Singh's mortal remains were airlifted to the Air Force Station, Ambala Cantonment, at 6 pm on Wednesday and from there his body was brought to his native village of Tepla.
Vikram Jit Singh had joined Army 5-years ago.
Haryana health minister Anil Vij said that a financial assistance of Rs 50 lakh has been transferred to the bank accounts of martyr’s kin— Rs 23.34 lakh to Singh's wife Harjit Kaur and Rs 13.33 lakh each to his father Baljinder Singh and mother Kamlesh Kaur.
As per the state government's decision, Harjit Kaur will also be provided with a government job.
Directions have been issued to Ambala's deputy commissioner and Secretary of district Sainik Welfare Board to complete all necessary formalities in this regard, the minister said.
