In a relief for AIADMK supremo and former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalitha and her close aid Sasikala, departmental proceedings against them in Income Tax (IT) cases have been withdrawn following the final order regarding the compounding fee paid by the duo.

When the case came up for hearing on Thursday, J Karuppiah, the counsel appearing for Jayalalitha and Sasikala, told the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court trying the economic offences that the department had officially communicated the passing of the final orders regarding the compounding fee.

Accordingly, public Prosecutor for IT department K Ramasamy will be filing a petition to withdraw the case.

The cases were about the failure of Jayalalitha and Sasikala to file IT returns for 1993-94 in their individual capacities.
