Senior IAS officer B B Mohanty, accused of raping a 23-year-old woman, was arrested in Jaipur, the police said on Tuesday.
Mohanty has been absconding since an FIR was lodged against him at the Mahesh Nagar police station following directions by a lower court in 2014.
"Mohanty surrendered on Monday night before Assistant Commissioner Sodala," senior police officer Yogesh Dadich said.
In 2015, his passport was impounded and his house at Sanganer Road was seized by the police.
Mohanty was accused by the woman in 2014 of having raped her the year before.
In her complaint, she had said he raped her at his house in Jaipur's Sanganer in February 2013 on the pretext of helping her clear the civil service examination.
A case against Mohanty was filed in January 2014 for repeated sexual exploitation. The case was being investigated by an Additional DCP-rank officer. Mohanty was the chairman of the Rajasthan Civil Services Appellate tribunal at the time at the time the FIR was registered.
Mohanty, an additional chief secretary rank officer from the 1977 Rajasthan cadre was suspended by the government after the charges surfaced and he retired in 2014 while in hiding.
Later in 2014, a local court had issued a non-bailable warrant against Mohanty for not appearing before the police for questioning.
He was produced in a local court on Tuesday. "He was sent for two days' police remand and now a medical test will be conducted," Dadhich said.
