Coming down heavily on Union minister Piyush Goyal for his remarks that Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee's suggestion of a minimum income scheme to the party was rejected by Indian voters, Priyanka Gandhi on Saturday said that the government’s job is to improve the collapsing economy and “not to run a comedy circus”.
“The economy is collapsing. Your job is to improve it, not to run a comedy circus," Priyanka said in a terse message
Training guns on Goyal without naming him, she said that instead of doing their job, the BJP leaders are trying to falsify the achievements of others.
Earlier reacting to Goyal’s remarks on Friday, Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said in a tweet, “so electoral victory makes Nobel experts wrong, maybe ignorant; Nyay bad because BJP returned to power. Amazing inverse logic and huge arrogance."
Earlier Goyal had said that Banerjee’s “thinking is totally Left-leaning” and that Banerjee supported 'Nyay' (poverty alleviation scheme of Congress during the last Lok Sabha polls) and people of India rejected his ideology.
Jailed senior Congress leader and former finance minister separately took a jibe at the government over the decline in population of indigenous cattle, saying the government's love for cow is only on paper.
“Population of indigenous cattle declined by 6% between 2012 and 2019. Meaning, the government's love for the cow is only on paper. It does not translate into increased productivity or fertility,” Chidambaram’s tweet, which on his behalf was posted by his family, said.
He also targetted the the government on the job front saying, “Over 50% of those asked said that the employment situation is presently worse. Over 30% said it will worsen. Meaning, the job crisis is acute."
