Odisha bypoll: Patnaik to hit campaign trail in Padampur on December 2

Adding momentum to BJD’s campaign for bypoll to Padampur assembly segment, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will be canvassing for party candidate Barsha Singh Bariha on December 2, sources in the state’s ruling camp said.

BJD vice-president Prasanna Acharya said Patnaik’s campaign schedule has almost been finalised.

The opposition BJP in Rajasthan on Wednesday claimed the show of unity by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his former deputy Sachin Pilot is only a political break and people will again get to hear them make statements against each other.

People of the state are suffering due to the infighting within the ruling Congress party, BJP MLA and spokesperson Ram Lal Sharma said in a video statement.

"It was assured to the people of the state that all is well in the Congress but I believe this is just a political break for the time being, and people of the state will get to hear the same things and words again like 'nakara', 'nikamma' and 'ghaddar'," he said.

AAP might not open account in Gujarat, says Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has downplayed AAP's challenge in Gujarat polls, claiming Arvind Kejriwal's party may not even open its account, and said the BJP state unit's announcement of setting up anti-radicalisation cell is a good initiative that can be considered by other states and the Centre.

In an interview to PTI, Shah described Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity, all-round development of Gujarat during his tenure as the state chief minister and the implementation of zero appeasement policy as the main reasons for people repeatedly reposing faith in the BJP over the last 27 years. “The BJP will register an unprecedented victory in Gujarat. People have full faith in our party and our leader Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” said Shah, who has been crisscrossing the state and addressing five rallies a day in the run-up to the two-phase polls on December 1 and 5.

AAP appoints 62 office-bearers in Gujarat

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday appointed 62 office-bearers at various levels in Gujarat where Assembly elections are scheduled in two phases on December 1 and 5.

The AAP named former Patidar quota leader Reshma Patel, who recently quit NCP, as its Gujarat spokesperson. Other office-bearers are Pravin Ram, who will be the vice president of the party in the state, Rajiben, who will be joint secretary, Brij Solanki who has been named as the youth wing president, and Javed Kadari as vice president of the minority wing of AAP, a release said.

MCD polls: Kejriwal govt pursuing appeasement policy, alleges Anurag Thakur

Union minister Anurag Thakur on Tuesday accused AAP convener and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of corruption and attacked his government for doing appeasement politics, citing salaries paid by the Delhi government to Imams of mosques.

Thakur also claimed victory for the BJP in Gujarat, Himachal and MCD polls.

Campaigning for the party candidates in MCD polls in Preet Vihar and Anarkali areas here, Thakur said, "Kejriwal ke teen yaar -- daru, ghotala, bhrashtachar (Kejriwal's three friends -- liquor, scam, corruption)."

The AAP contested assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand making big claims and lost even its deposit, he said.

BJP received Rs 614.53 cr as contributions in 2021-22, Congress Rs 95.46 cr

The ruling BJP received Rs 614.53 crore as contributions, more than six times the funds garnered by the opposition Congress during fiscal year 2021-22.

The Congress received funds to the tune of Rs 95.46 crore, according to Election Commission data.

The Trinamool Congress, which is in power in West Bengal, received Rs 43 lakh as contributions during the period while the CPI-M, which is in government in Kerala, received funds of Rs 10.05 crore.

3 ex-AAP legislators join BJP ahead of MCD polls

Three former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislators here on Tuesday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections scheduled to be held on December 4.

Surendra Singh, Raju Dingan and Chaudhary Fateh Singh -- the former AAP MLAs, joined the saffron party in presence of Delhi unit BJP president Adesh Gupta, party spokesperson Sambit Patra and former Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel.

During their stay in the AAP, Surender Singh (Commando) was an MLA from Delhi Cantt, Raju Dhingan a legislator from Trilokpuri constituency, and Chaudhary Fateh Singh had represented Gokalpur.

Gehlot, Pilot show unity; state Cong chief calls it 'united colours of Rajasthan'

Days after trading barbs, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot along with former deputy chief minister and his junior party colleague Sachin Pilot attended a meeting here that was convened to discuss preparations for the Congress' Bharat Jodo Yatra that is expected to enter Rajasthan in the first week of December.

Both Gehlot and Pilot greeted each other in the meeting. Later, Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee chief Govind Singh Dotasra shared photographs on Twitter with a caption 'The United Colours of Rajasthan'.

Those seen in the photographs are Dotasra, along with Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, Pilot and Gehlot.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Tuesday alleged that "terrorism in the form of love jihad" was a ploy "to finish sanatan dharma" and urged people to unite against it.

The rural development minister was speaking at a programme held in Mohammadabad here to commemorate the death anniversary of former MLA Krishnanand Rai.

"Terrorism has taken a new shape in the form of love jihad...it is a ploy to finish 'sanatan dharma' in India. The followers have to unite and foil this conspiracy," he said.
