The violence has received widespread condemnation and the BJP has claimed that Mamata's appeasement politics is forcing Hindus to flee clash-hit Murshidabad. The saffron party has also called for imposition of AFSPA. Elsehwere, the AIMPLB has announced that it will hold a protest meet against the Waqf Act at the AIMIM headquarters on April 19. On West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee's statement on Waqf Amendment Bill, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said, "The conditions being created for appeasement of votes during the tenure of Mamata Banerjee government are unfortunate and condemnable... In recent times, especially on the occasion of Ram Navami and continuously ever since, the Hindu majority has been tortured and left to burn, temples are being vandalised and women are being molested, and still the state government is silent just for votes, which reminds us of the times of Bengal Partition.
