The government said preliminary reports suggest the reported cases are mostly mild and do not appear to be “associated with unusual severity or mortality” and the situation in India also remains under control.

The current Covid cases in India stand at 257, the government said. All these cases are mild and do not require hospitalisation.

The DGHS meeting was attended by officials from National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Emergency Medical Relief (EMR) division, Disaster Management Cell, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Central government hospitals.

The Union Health Ministry said that it is closely monitoring the situation and remains vigilant to put in place and proactive in monitoring the appropriate measures.
